If your expectation is that reconnecting after time apart is an important issue, your teens will share that expectation. Demand your teen's attention in an inoffensive way, with a light touch, and don't take any disinterest personally. Once they get used to the routine of reconnecting after separation, they will take it for granted.

Parents can help their teen make a plan to stop smoking and stay motivated by offering suggestions, such as writing down why he or she wants to stop smoking, setting a quit date, hanging out with friends who don’t smoke and encourage him/her to get involved in new activities.

"Starting out in the program I had few responsibilities, but as I got a job and worked harder, I started paying my own bills. It became really gratifying to know I could budget my money, work hard at a job, and accomplish the things I have." -Miles (Former Student).
